I regularly get asked if I run training programmes or workshops in how to integrate the arts and design processes with restorative justice. Here is your opportunity!

This is a repeat of the same workshop I facilitated last year in November 2024. Both are commissioned by The Mint House and aimed at practising restorative facilitators and/ or professionals who work with people involved in offending and those harmed through crime and conflict.

During the workshop, practitioners will be invited to participate in and learn creative exercises with the intention that these can later be introduced into restorative processes with clients. The creative exercises will be interspersed with brief visual presentations which will contain the theory and research behind using art and design based approaches within restorative practice. In particular, participants will learn how creative approaches have the potential to enhance dialogues as well as healing.

You don’t need to have any prior experience or knowledge of art and design or of using art materials in order to take part - just enthusiasm and curiosity!

Learning outcomes:

• A ‘toolkit’ of creative exercises to takeaway and use with clients
• A basic knowledge of the research and theory behind using art and design approaches within restorative practice
• An introduction into how to use creative tools as part of a trauma-informed approach
• An understanding of how art and design approaches can provide more inclusive and accessible spaces for restorative ways of working

In response to requests, I am also working with The Mint House to plan a follow on to these two workshops. This will be a more advanced session in which participants can build on what they have learnt from the above workshop, or skills they already have, in order to develop their creative restorative practice in more depth. Watch this space - this more advanced workshop will most probably be scheduled for Spring 2027.
